Good day, Heritage Middle School Families,

It is Saturday, November 16 and it’s time for the Principal’s Message. I hope this message finds you and your family doing well and enjoying time together!

The HuskyStrong Word of the Week for November 11-15 was Service. Now it’s time to explore this concept further with the #HuskyStrong Action Challenge! The challenge for Service is this: Do you know who serves our school? Take action: thank and talk to one of our custodians, our cafeteria staff, or our front office secretaries and talk to them about what it takes to serve our school. And then ask them how you can better serve the school--and then do it? Submit your evidence on the Google Form, to the front office on the Action Challenge paper form or to tomlind@wcosh.org

Here are some key events and Husky things to know about the week ahead for November 11-15:

  1. On Tuesday, November 19 at 6:30pm, our Athletic Department will hold its Winter Sports meeting in the Commons area. If you have a Husky who is participating in Basketball, Cheerleading, or Wrestling, please plan on attending. If you can’t make it, please reach out to Mr. Church, HMS Athletic Director.

  2. On Wednesday, November 20, we have three big events happening at Heritage:

    1. Our MODEL Mentors will be meeting with selected 8th grade female students in our Media Center to discuss leadership at 12:16pm. Thanks to our mentors for working with our scholars!

    2. At 6pm in the Commons, 6th grade students and families are invited to an informational meeting about an educational trip to New York City happening in June.

    3. At 7pm in the Commons, 8th grade students and families are invited to an informational meeting about the annual D.C. Trip happening in May.

  3. On Thursday, November 21 at 7pm, our 6th grade Choir will perform in the Commons. Come out and listen to the sweet sounds of the Huskies!

This Week’s Inspirational Info:

Middle school is prime time to help your student with goal-setting! Check out this article entitled, “A Framework for Student Goal-Setting” (Edutopia 2019). Don’t wait until high school to start this critical conversation. And as you talk to your middle schooler about this topic, put December 4 at 6pm on your calendar--it’s time to learn about Westerville City School’s College-Credit Plus (CCP) program! For more details, check out the graphic below.

So we’re looking forward to another wonderful week of Husky PRIDE.  Thank you for everything you do at your house to support what we do at the school house. As we say at Heritage: Keep your eyes on the prize and seize every day with kindness, excellence, safety and Husky PRIDE! We Are Heritage! We are Husky Strong!

Thanks,

Dr. Tomlin
