Westerville City Schools’ Summer Enrichment Theatre program will now be bringing “Mean Girls the Musical” to the stage this summer.

Westerville middle and high school students — current seventh- through 12th graders — interested in participating in the summer musical must complete an interest form by May 30. Those interested in joining the production crew and orchestra will need to provide information. Actors will need to submit a self-tape audition singing a song that they are comfortable with. The song does not have to be from the show but can be if they desire.

The Mean Girls musical production is a pivot from initial plans to produce “Barnum” this summer. Additionally, Matt Wolfe, who oversees the Summer Enrichment Theatre program, will now direct the production, which will be performed July 13-16 at Westerville Central High School.

Mean Girls the Musical is based on the popular 2004 film of the same name written by Tina Fey.

Wolfe said he selected the show because of the popularity of the title and its timely message.

“It shows the message of being yourself and loving the person you are against the backdrop of bullying and trying to fit in a place you aren't sure you belong,” he said. “There’s lots of heart and even more laughs that will make this musical a really great experience.”
