More than 20 WCSD sixth-graders earn top scores in Continental Math League Contest

Westerville sixth-grade students in advanced math classes competed in the 2022-23 Continental Mathematics League Contest, which tests students’ problem solving, analytical reasoning, mathematical computation, and reading skills.

The competition was facilitated through the Gifted Education Department in conjunction with advanced math teachers. WCSD students competed in the Pythagorean Division with five meets, in which students had 30 minutes to complete six multi-step problems.  

Top-scoring sixth-grade students include:

Genoa Middle School, with math teachers Pam Charleston and Jamie Yeater

  • Henry Davis, first place

  • Olivia Hercules-Wetmore, second place

  • David Crumrine, third place 

  • Lillie Bogan, fourth place

  • Ezekiel Gulliver, fifth place

 

Heritage Middle School, with math teachers Katie Langenderfer and Mandy Clark

  • Parker Stout, first place

  • Kenzie Nowak, second place

  • Claire Johnson, third place

  • Jade Parr and Jude Martsolf, tied for fourth place

  • Noah Shuey, fifth place 

 

Walnut Springs Middle School with math teachers Maggie Etherington, Maria Soisson and Kimberly Thayer

  • Lucy Theiss, first place

  • Jacob Mazak, second place

  • Miguel Botello, Alexander Lawson and Isaiah Cisse, tied for third place

  • Carter Develvis, Luke Kaminski and Elizabeth Maurer, tied for fourth place

  • Fox Baldwin, Kevin Johnson, Lucas Swartz and Brynn Thomas, tied for fifth place
