The upcoming Westerville Prepared event offers Westerville students and families a unique opportunity to connect with employers in a way that can help shape students’ career path after high school.

“This is a chance for students to have deeper conversations with employers in the fields they are interested in,” said Matt Misener, director of Career and College Pathways.

“They can learn about what these jobs entail and what skills are needed to be successful. We hope they walk away from these conversations with a better idea of their career choices and which route they’d like to take after high school.”

More than a dozen employers in career fields students ranked highly in the district’s SchooLinks college and career planning platform will be on hand, including: Ohio Health, Corna Kokosing, Triad Marketing & Media, Cutler Realtors, Mid-City Electric and Status Solutions.

Westerville Prepared is 5:30-7:30 p.m. May 11 at The Point at Otterbein.

The event also features a showcase of the district’s business, health and engineering pathways at the middle and high schools:

  • Heritage Middle School students who dedicated their study hall this semester to build a mobile, four-player arcade game will be on hand to show their final project.

  • Westerville Central High School students and teachers will provide a demonstration of a lab.

  • Chem Gems, a joint project with Westerville North High School chemistry teacher Jeff Bracken and business teacher Amanda Mosely, will have student-created candles, soaps, bath bombs and other products on display and for sale.

Westerville Prepared will also feature a community resource hub and representatives from area colleges, military branches and career centers. TheCoderSchool will host a table with a robot that is part of its robotics classes.

WCSD Superintendent Dr. John Kellogg will serve as the event’s featured speaker.
