Scott Reeves, who has led human resources initiatives and academic efforts for middle and high schools since joining Westerville City Schools more than a decade ago, has been selected as the district’s next Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning.

WCSD Board of Education members approved the appointment at their June 27 regular meeting. He assumes the role from Dr. Paul Hopkins, who will be departing the district in July to become a professor at Capital University. Hopkins has been in the district since 2018, first serving as the Executive Director of Human Resources before becoming assistant superintendent last year.

As Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning, Reeves will oversee all aspects of the district’s PreK-12 academic programs and services.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to lead such a talented collection of educators across the Westerville school district,” Reeves said. “I am truly excited for the learning experiences that will come for the students of this wonderful community.”

Reeves joined WCSD in 2010 as Executive Director of Secondary Academic Affairs, overseeing the district’s secondary school programs and administrators. Under his leadership, the district launched initiatives to increase the number of low-income and underrepresented students who enroll in Advanced Placement/International Baccalaureate classes.

He also helped lead the district’s middle school redesign process and was instrumental in the creation of WCSD’s Portrait of a Graduate — a framework that ensures all students have educational experiences that prepare them to continue to effectively learn and contribute beyond graduation. Additionally, the district developed its career pathway programs at the high school level, increased college credit coursework, expanded gifted course opportunities at the middle schools and developed the largest Global Scholars Diploma program in Central Ohio.

Last year, he became Executive Director of Human Resources.

Prior to Westerville, Reeves served as principal of Pickerington High School Central for three years. He spent five years as assistant principal of Reynoldsburg High School.

Before becoming a building leader, Reeves taught in Columbus City Schools for a decade as a social studies teacher and career-based intervention instructor. He also spent two years as the head varsity basketball coach of Northland High School and three years as head varsity basketball coach of Independence High School, earning City League Coach of the Year honors in 2002.

He received his bachelor’s degree in social studies education from The Ohio State University and his master’s degree in education administration from Ashland University.

Pending Board of Education approval, Kari Dennis will replace Reeves as Executive Director of Human Resources. Dennis first joined the district in 2011 as a Food Service Coordinator, was hired in 2014 as Manager of Food Services & Purchasing, and most recently served as Director of Human Resources and Food Services. She holds an Associate’s Degree of Applied Sciences in Hospitality Management from Columbus State and her Bachelor of Science degree as a dual major in Management & Leadership and Business Administration from Franklin University. She is also an alumnus of Westerville North High School.

Hanby Elementary Principal Megan Rose Forman has been hired as the district’s next Director of Elementary Curriculum & Instruction, filling the vacancy created when Cheryl Relford was selected as Executive Director of Elementary Schools. Forman first joined Westerville City Schools in spring of 2019 as Interim Principal at Annehurst Elementary. Prior to joining the district, she spent her entire career with the Big Walnut Local Schools. She also has been an Adjunct Professor in the Education Department of Ohio Wesleyan University and has more than two decades of educational experience as a classroom teacher and administrator. Forman holds a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education and Psychology from Ohio Wesleyan University, as well as a Master of Educational Administration from Ashland University.

Candidates are currently being interviewed to fill the vacant Principal position at Hanby Elementary. Interviews are also being conducted to fill the vacant Huber Ridge Elementary Assistant Principal position, which had been filled several weeks ago. The individual selected, however, later resigned to accept another professional opportunity in a different school district.

Tyler Holmes will be joining Westerville Central High School’s Leadership Team as an Assistant Principal. He comes to the district from Hilliard City Schools and fills the vacancy created by Roshawn Parker’s departure for Pickerington Local Schools. Holmes brings seven years of experience as a classroom teacher and four years of administrative leadership experience, most recently as Principal of a Hilliard English Learner program. He holds his Bachelor of Arts in English with minors in Psychology and Teacher Education from Wabash College, as well as his Master of Arts in Educational Administration and Supervision from Ball State University.

Matthew Misener will be joining Westerville City Schools from South-Western City Schools as Director of Career and College Pathways, filling the vacancy created by Dawn Sayre’s hiring as Principal at Westerville Central High School. Misener brings 15 years of experience to the district, working previously as a college laboratory instructor, high school science teacher, grant data coordinator, curriculum director, and serving in other instructional and leadership roles. He holds his Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology and his Master of Education in Integrated Science (Secondary and Adult Education) from the University of Toledo, as well as a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Ohio Dominican University.
