Westerville middle school students celebrated in 2022 Laws of Life essay competition

Students from Blendon, Genoa and Walnut Springs middle schools were recognized for their essays about perseverance, humility and compassion as part of the 2022 Laws of Life essay contest organized by the Better Business Bureau’s Center for Character Ethics. They include:

  • Kacee Bohan, Walnut Springs: 1st place, Special Theme (Courage) ($150 prize) 

  • Amelia Thiegs, Blendon: 2nd place, Special Theme (Courage) category ($75 prize)

  • Wyatt Stefan-Adams, Genoa: 2nd place, 7th grade ($75 prize)

  • Hayley Wehner, Blendon: 3rd place, 6th grade ($50 prize)

  • Aarzoo Dhungana, Genoa: 4th place, 6th grade ($50 prize)

  • Harper Wilson, Walnut Springs: 4th place, 7th grade ($50 prize)

Semi-finalists also recognized include Gabriella Connor at Blendon; Ayla Stewart at Genoa; Tokyo Black, Delilah Jendretzky, Emery Sullivan and Imani Akita at Walnut Springs. 

The students’ language arts teachers supported their work in the essay competition. They include Al Marietta and Lee Rutherford at Blendon; Kara Reiter at Genoa; Beth Morvay and Tammy Saltzmann at Walnut Springs.

The Laws of Life essay contest challenges young people to discover through reflection and writing what matters most to them in their own lives and the principles they believe should guide their behaviors and choices. It starts as a classroom activity for middle schools across the Better Business Bureau of Central Ohio’s 21-county service area.

The Central Ohio Better Business Bureau hosted a banquet to recognize students on May 17 at Whetstone Park of Roses.
