The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has asked area school systems for their help in sharing the following tips with families regarding their 2021 tax returns and the advance Child Tax Credit:

  • Those who received advance Child Tax Credit payments should file a 2021 tax return to get the remainder of the credit for which they are eligible.

  • Families should reconcile tax records before filing their taxes by comparing the total amount of the advance Child Tax Credit received during 2021 with the amount they can claim on your tax return.

  • People who did not receive a third round Economic Impact Payment for their child may be eligible to receive up to $1,400 by claiming the Recovery Rebate Credit from the IRS. Parents must claim the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit on their tax return to get this money.
