The sixth-graders in advanced math classes at Genoa Middle School were issued the same challenge: create a container to ship a single Pringles potato chip to Caley Nestor Baker, coordinator of Gifted Education and Professional Development at the district’s office in the Early Learning Center.

The goal was to design a package that had the smallest volume and smallest mass, which protected the chip so it would arrive at its destination undamaged.

Once Baker received the packages, the containers, as well as the chips, were evaluated and scored.

First place winners include:

  • Pam Charleston’s Period 9 class: Lilly Adams, Alexis Vasil and Scarlett Soungpradith

  • Jamie Yeater’s Period 7/8 class: Brock Baumann, Bentley Travis and Colin Mara

  • Charleston’s Period 1 class (who were also the 2021 Genoa Middle School Chip Challenge winners): Kendyl Allomong, Evan Brooks and Caden Cibulskis
