Families of students who will be attending Minerva France Elementary and Minerva Park Middle School can submit suggestions for mascots and colors in a ThoughtExchange starting Friday, Oct. 29.
Families will receive a survey link via email where they can share ideas on mascots and colors through Nov. 5. Suggestions will be narrowed down and selected by popular vote.
Minerva France Elementary, whose namesake set a precedent for Black women in librarianship and higher education, is slated to open fall 2022. Mascots and color schemes vary across the district’s elementary schools so suggestions are not limited.
Minerva Park Middle School, which is named after the village in which it resides, is scheduled to open fall 2023. In keeping with the district’s middle school tradition, the school mascot should be a member of the canine or feline family and have the same beginning sound and/or letter of the school itself. For example, the mascots for the district’s middle school include the Blendon Bulldogs, Genoa Jaguars, Heritage Huskies, and Walnut Springs Wolves.
