Bette Marschall Memorial Education Fund awards $2,359 in grants

Seven teachers have been awarded grants totaling $2,359 from The Bette Marschall Memorial Education Fund of The Columbus Foundation. The fund was established in honor of former Westerville teacher and principal Bette Marschall, who died in 2001.

The recipients include:

  • Debbie Pellington, gifted facilitator at Genoa Middle School, who was awarded $319 to purchase books for an interdisciplinary unit focusing on scientists from the United States and around the world.

  • Summer Weinheimer, teacher at Whittier and Longfellow schools, who was awarded $250 to help with tuition for a class in Teaching of Studio Activities, in pursuit of a Masters Degree in Art Education.

  • Sheri Chaffin, instructional coach at Robert Frost Elementary School, who was awarded $250 to help with tuition for a course in pursuit of a Master of Education Leadership.

  • Mary Fuchs, teacher at Westerville South High School, who was awarded $400 to continue the publication of the school’s online newspaper, The Scribe.

  • Jennifer Cole, teacher at Heritage Middle School, who was awarded $379 to purchase texts and provide honoraria for speakers as part of their project, The Immigration Connection.

  • Katie Stuhlfauth, speech language pathologist at Heritage, who was awarded $276 to purchase supplies for a social skills group.

  • Aislynn Valentine, teacher at WSHS, who was awarded $485 to help with costs related to an Ohio State Climate Center field trip, which includes a UN Climate Change Conference and a tour of the Byrd Polar Climate Research Center.
