Westerville students can dive into the world of gaming, design and build model houses that use solar energy, go on a simulated dig to explore fossils, and learn how to start their own podcast through Summer Ignite!, a new district-wide summer learning series created by Westerville educators and staff.

Students entering grades 1 to 12 can choose from more than two dozen not-for-credit sessions that run either one or two weeks long. The sessions, which start June 7 and end July 22, are free to Westerville City Schools students. Transportation will be provided.

Caley Nestor Baker, who is helping to manage the Summer Ignite! program, said the sessions give staff an opportunity to connect with students with subjects they are interested in and foster a passion for learning.

“This year has been a challenging year on so many levels,” said Nestor Baker, who is also the coordinator of Gifted Education and Professional Development for the district. “This is the way for students to connect with each other, for staff to connect with students and dive into something they are really interested in and can really have fun.”

Registration ends May 14. Space is limited. To learn more about Ignite! sessions or register, visit here.
