Several Westerville middle school students are now published authors. They include:

  • Payton Bame, a sixth-grader at Walnut Springs;

  • Shira Baumann, a seventh-grader at Blendon Middle School;

  • Lydia Carter, a sixth-grader at Heritage;

  • Rodav Kalengayi, seventh grader at Heritage;

  • Rayne Kroeker, a seventh-grader at Walnut Springs; and

  • Julianna Trudden, a seventh-grader at Genoa.

The students submitted poetry for a writing contest embodying the theme ‘Imagine!’ sponsored by YoungWriters. The organization is a Massachusetts-based group that coordinates writing contests for elementary, middle and high school students. Winning compositions are published in books that are distributed to schools.

The opportunity was supported by the WCSD Gifted Education Department. Learn more about YoungWriters and future writing contests here.
