Thirty Westerville middle school students advance to regional Laws of Life essay competition

Thirty students across Westerville’s middle schools are moving onto the regional 2021 Laws of Life essay contest, which challenges young people to discover through reflection and writing what matters most to them in their own lives and the principles they believe should guide their behaviors and choices.

Organized by the Better Business Bureau’s Center for Character Ethics, the contest starts as a classroom activity for middle schools across the bureau’s 21-county service area in Central Ohio. The district’s Gifted Department provides support for the contest at the middle schools. 

The students advancing to the regional competition include:

Blendon Middle School

  • Sixth-grade: Owen Wiggins (Teacher: Lee Rutherford)

  • Seventh-grade: Shira Baumann, Ashrei Kemp, Colin Lundy, Susanna Mylin, Allison Share, Addie Quisumbing (Teacher: Julie Warner)

  • Eighth-grade: Madison Davis, Devin Eby, Ella Hansan, Emma Westlake (Teacher: Briana Swanson)

Genoa Middle School 

  • Seventh-grade: Anna Bogan, Lyla Bjerke, Ethan Dick, Gavin Farkasovsky, Emilea Gilbert, Elise Hamlin, Leo Tanzillo, Grant Winter, McKenna Clarke (Teacher: Kara Reiter)

Heritage Middle School

  • Sixth-grade: Alex Ceresa, Holden Gray, Brynley Maietta, Merrigan Riggs (Teachers: Kellie Sheely and Mary Schade)

Walnut Springs Middle School

  • Eighth-grade: Sarah Goldner, Myla Manu-Arkhurst, Ella Marczewski, Emma Polovick, Alina Rankhimzyanova (Teacher: Janice Hill)
