May 2, 40 highly talented visual artists and their art teachers from each of the four Westerville City Schools middle schools attended the 5th annual “Career in the Visual Arts” trip.  Students visited the Columbus Museum of Art and the Columbus College of Art and Design (CCAD), thanks to funding from the Career Education and Gifted Education Departments.  The middle school pupils toured campus with college students and interacted with admissions department staff.  Many topics were discussed including the admissions process, scholarships, course options, majors/minors, campus life, and interns/co-ops and job opportunities for students.  Following lunch in the Quad at CCAD, at the Columbus Museum of Art, the students were able to observe, describe, interpret, and evaluate a variety of artworks through the guided tours of the newly expanded Museum.  Students used writing prompts and journaling to carry the learning experiences back to their classrooms.
