Throughout this school year, Pamela Charleston’s 6th grade advanced math class at Genoa Middle School has participated in the 31st Continental Mathematics League Contest, facilitated through the Gifted Education Department. This math contest challenges students to improve their reading comprehension and problem-solving skills by completing multi-step math problems. This year, the Genoa students competed in the Pythagorean Contest Division. The pupils competed in five meets in which they had 30 minutes to complete six multi-step problems. Genoa placed first nationally in the Pythagorean Division. The top five scoring students on the team were Ava Stauffer (who was also recognized as one of the top scoring students nationally), Abby Urian, Madelyn McConnell, Timothy Haller and Griffin Das.
