Mark Twain Elementary School was a hub of activity on Thursday evening, August 1, as Westerville Caring & Sharing volunteers gathered to fill hundreds of book bags with donated school supplies and personal hygiene products. The organization’s annual Back to School project helps more than 300 Westerville students each year. If funds are available, they also provide gift cards to qualifying families. Their goal is to help pupils begin each school year with confidence and a positive attitude.
Caring & Sharing, a 501(c)3 non-profit group, assists students who receive free or reduced lunch through the Westerville City School District. Many of the families who are eligible for services have suffered job losses or layoffs, have been injured, have become ill, are single parent households, or have two parents working at low wages. The organization’s two main projects each year are Back to School and the Christmas distribution program.
Volunteers raise funds necessary to cover all administrative expenses, which is how Caring & Sharing is able to assure that 100% of all donations benefit Westerville families.
