Four Westerville Students Receive Be WISE Camp Scholarships from AAUW

The Westerville Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), in collaboration with the Westerville City Schools Gifted Education Department, has awarded four $300 scholarships to the Be WISE Camp at Denison University this summer. Middle school recipients are Madison Seabury (Genoa), Gabrielle McCrea (Walnut Springs), Sophie Hand (Heritage), and Claire Guinan (Blendon). 

Be WISE is a mathematics and science camp designed to develop interest, excitement and self-confidence in girls who are entering grades 7 or 8 in the fall of 2013. This weeklong residential camp for 130 students will be held from June 16-21. The camp will feature separate curriculum for each grade level emphasizing hands-on activities. Class size ratio is 10 students per teacher. The curriculum for incoming seventh graders will include Physics, Math, Ecology, and Stream Study. The camp will also offer activities such as swimming, volleyball and tennis.  Founded in 1881 and with nearly 1,000 branches across the country, AAUW is a national organization promoting equity and education for women and girls.
