On April 3, more than 200 teachers, students, administrators, and community members attended the first Westerville City Schools Innovation Summit.  The Summit program was made up of speakers from different backgrounds and interests who shared their views and experiences and provided participants with inspiration, affirmation, and vision around innovation and educational transformation.  Innovative practices and ideas were talked about in 10-minute segments, and topics included:

  •     Meeting Students Where They Are;
  •     Community Partnerships;
  •     First-Year Teaching;
  •     Where is Innovation? ;
  •     Customization in an Era of Standardization;
  •     The Secret Life of an American Teenager (21st Century Edition); and
  •     Chit-Chatting about Challenges, Changes, and Choice.

In addition, students and teachers from each elementary, middle, and high school graciously created art work around the Summit theme, “I wish...I hope...I learn...”  Approximately twenty engaging and thought-provoking pieces were submitted for this exhibit.  The artwork was used as the stage background and will be returned to each site for permanent display.

As part of a generous donation, WOCC-TV taped the Innovation Summit and the entire program video will be posted on the district website for viewing.  The program slide presentation and various presentation links will also be part of the Innovation Summit webpage.  Please visit the Innovation Summit webpage at:  www.wcsoh.org/administrativeDepartment.aspx?aid=20.
