Genoa Middle School’s literary magazine, The Troubadour, has earned a rating of Excellent from The National Council of Teachers of English 2012 Program to Recognize Excellence in Student Literary Magazines. Carly Young served as faculty advisor, and Audrey Melko was student editor.
The club members met every Thursday from September to May. Students wrote and created stories, poems, essays, and works of art all surrounding a theme and an author's work. The staff selected Robert Louis Stevenson as their inspiration. He was best known for writing Treasure Island and Jekyll and Hyde. Some of the themes were life's treasures and split personalities. All students, not just those on staff, could submit work. The Troubadour staff helped Young edit and compile work into a magazine that was sold in the spring.
