Top Middle School Spellers will Represent Westerville in Spelling Bee

Four Westerville Middle School students are among the 66 spellers who have qualified for participation in the 2013 Ohio University Scripps College of Communication Regional Spelling Bee.  The event will take place on March 16 at Ohio University in Athens.  Spellers who attained a score of at least 36 on the online semifinals test include representatives from all four Westerville middle schools:  Diamond Hasberry, Blendon; Michael Qi, Genoa; Zachary Ryan, Heritage; and Jocelyn Mitchell, Walnut Springs. 

Top students at the Regional Bee will head to the National Scripps Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., from May 26–June 1.  Scripps (www.spellingbee.com) is the nation's largest and longest-running spelling bee administered on a not-for-profit basis by the E.W. Scripps Company.  Scripps Spelling Bees are held in the United States, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Department of Defense Schools in Europe, as well as the Bahamas, China, Ghana, Jamaica, Japan and South Korea.
