(January 8, 2013) Westerville City School District (WCSD) Board of Education members began the new year yesterday by conducting their annual organizational meeting and electing new leadership for the 2013 calendar year.

After serving last year in the Vice President’s role, Denise Pope will serve as President in 2013. Kristi Robbins will serve as Vice President for 2013. The presidency previously was held by Board member Kevin Hoffman.

The remainder of the organizational meeting entailed the approval of several measures authorizing the district Treasurer/CFO to conduct the day-to-day fiscal operations of the district, as well as other annual “housekeeping” measures, including:
  • Approving the Board’s 2013 meeting schedule;
  • Approving a resolution requesting the advance of real estate and personal property tax revenues in calendar year 2013;
  • Approving a resolution requesting notification from the Tax Commission of any application for exemption from taxation for any property located within the district;
  • Authorizing the Board’s participation in the Ohio School Board Association’s Legal Assistance Fund for the Calendar Year 2013;
  • Purchasing annual memberships in the Ohio School Boards Association and Westerville Area Chamber of Commerce;
  • Approving district participation in state and federally-funded programs for Fiscal Year 2013;
  • Securing legal counsel for day-to-day operations;
  • Appointing district residents Mike Borowitz (CPA), Al Hammond, Gwen Nichols (CPA), Rebecca Vazquez-Skillings and Tiffany Stubbs to the district’s Audit Committee; and
  • Appointing Treasurer/CFO Bart Griffith as the district’s Public Records official.
The Board’s annual meeting calendar is comparable to previous years’ calendars in that meetings generally are held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. Unless announced otherwise, all meetings will begin at 6 p.m. at Westerville South High School, which is located at 303 S. Otterbein Avenue. The meeting schedule is available on the district website at www.wcsoh.org.
