The Westerville Lions Club will host the fourth annual Ned Mosher Apple Butter festival on Sunday, October 7 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The event will take place at the McVay Elementary log cabin located in the forest on the grounds of the school at 270 S. Hempstead Road. The community is invited and admission is free.

Lions Club members will demonstrate apple butter and apple cider making, and children will be invited to participate in old fashioned games and crafts. Tours of the log cabin will be offered as well. Cider and apple butter will be available for purchase, along with homemade pulled pork sandwich meals. Donations will be accepted to help with the cost to replace wood shutters on the cabin and for other maintenance. Part of the proceeds will also be used to fund Lion’s mission of providing services for those who need help with issues relating to their sight.

Ned Mosher led the Westerville Lions in moving and rebuilding the log cabin 30 years ago to property owned by Maurice McVay. He was an outdoorsman and teacher in the Westerville City School District, who used the cabin to facilitate learning about maple syrup making in Ohio and other hands-on science lessons. After retiring he continued his educational endeavors as a volunteer. Westerville Lions Club is the oldest service organization in Westerville. It was formed in 1928.
