Julianne Schaffer, an English teacher at Westerville Central High School, Angela Zimmerman, a fourth-grade teacher at Whittier Elementary and Lowry Wisner, a third-grade teacher at Emerson Elementary have been named Westerville Education Foundation’s (WEF) May Teachers of the Month.

WEF Board Member and Chair of the Teacher of the Month program Rebecca Chesnic, WEF Development Committee Chair Marty Sweterlitsch, Superintendent Dr. John Kellogg, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning Scott Reeves and other administrators and teachers recently surprised recipients with the news.

Nomination letters for each recipient featured glowing praise:

Schaffer: “She helped me during a hard time with my grade and mental well being. She’s a teacher you can go to for anything — it don’t matter and she won’t judge you. She makes sure she has no biases and is overall a super kind teacher. She has joyful energy and treats everyone the same no matter the trouble they caused.”

Zimmerman: “Every day my daughter comes home and says how much she loves school. She shows me videos or teaches me new things she has learned from Ms. Zimmerman. This teacher makes learning fun and gets my daughter excited to go to school every day. My daughter has told me she’s not looking forward to summer because she won’t be in school.”

Wisner: “My teacher is a funny teacher and gives us cheers for our test… Once she had a cheer where she said, ‘Get your,’ and we said, ‘Rest.’ And then she said, ‘Try your,’ and we said, ‘Best.’ And she said, ‘Rock this,’ and we said, ‘Test.’ Then she shook some pom pom looking things around. Dear Miss Wisner, you are an amazing teacher. Thank you.”
