Second grade students at Whittier Elementary presented a concert called “A Winter Spectacular” twice on Wednesday, December 14.  They were accompanied by the school’s Recorder Club and The Whittier Singers, a fourth and fifth grade after-school choir.  Part of the show included an audience sing-along, consisting of seasonal standards.

In preparation for the concert, the children learned a variety of musical numbers and choreography, including a rap about reindeer, a song of peace, a medley of African tunes, and a jazzy song about hot chocolate.  The students helped create decorations for the performance, which featured youngsters dancing with scarves, canes, turkey costumes and the playing of tone chimes, boomwhackers, percussion, and other whacky instruments.  Music teacher Evan McIntyre directed.  The performance was a wonderful celebration of the beauty of winter and the joys of spending time with family.
