Participants in the recent “Name the Schools” ThoughtExchange overwhelmingly recommended Minerva Park Middle School as the name for the Westerville City School District’s new secondary building.

Two names also earned significant support as considerations for the new elementary school: Maya Angelou Elementary (an accomplished author with significant national recognition) and Toni Morrison Elementary (an accomplished author who is both nationally renowned and originally from Ohio).

Although it did not rise to the top, another name with strong local connections, Minerva France, was suggested several times during the ThoughtExchange process. This individual is a district graduate whose background story, while lesser-known, reflects a pioneering spirit and dedication to education.

The Board of Education wishes to gauge public interest in this additional possible name for our new elementary school. Please click this link to learn more about each suggestion and participate in a brief survey about these options. The opportunity to complete the survey closes at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, October 7, 2021.
