As anyone who reads and writes will tell you, Q and U belong together.  In fact, the letters were married on September 13 in Angela Schmidt’s kindergarten classroom at Pointview Elementary School.  It was touted as the “social event of the season.”  Pupils came dressed as queens and quarterbacks to participate in the joining of these two lovely letters.  The couple was honored with a wedding party that included royal quilt bearers, quarter girls, quivering dancers, q-tip salesmen, “shushers” holding “quiet” signs, and quill wavers.  Parent volunteers were present to help out at the event, and one even sculpted a beautiful two-tiered wedding cake adorned with “qu” words.  Morning kindergarten students Kelsey Ginn and Vlad Levitskiy represented Q and U during the ceremony, while Miss Schmidt officiated.  During the wedding, she imparted these words of wisdom:  “They will be together forever to spell words such as quarter, quack, quill, quiver, quiet, queen, quilt, quick, question, quandary, quartet, quit and quest.  Q will have to be understanding when other words need U.  Words like umbrella and underwear have no need for a Q.  U will have to be there for Q, supporting Q in all words.  Like other married couples, they will have quarrels.  Even so, they must stick together like quicksand.”
