Amanda Oakes’ third grade class of 20 students at Pointview Elementary School participated in a service learning project this month that resulted in the creation of 10 colorful blankets which will be donated to My Very Own Blanket in Westerville, an organization that provides blankets for foster children.  The pupils also decorated fabric squares to be used to make a quilt for a foster child.  The students showed an interest in giving back to others, especially other children, after completing their Social Studies unit on communities.  Oakes said, “It has been a good opportunity for them to talk about what it might be like for children who have less than them, even considering the needs of some of our own students.”  For further information about My Very Own Blanket, please visit http://mvob.org/.
