In recognition of Fire Safety Week, first grade students at Pointview Elementary School got some tips from visiting firefighters Butch Caine IV and Sam Towns, who work at Columbus’ Station 15. The duo talked about how and when to call 911; how to stop, drop and roll; why children shouldn’t touch matches or lighters; and what to do in case of a fire. They also demonstrated what firefighters wear when they are battling a blaze so the youngsters would know not to be frightened and hide from them. The pupils received Safety Activity books and were encouraged to discuss smoke alarms and evacuation plans with their families.
