The annual Cabin Day event at McVay Elementary School is usually held outdoors, but after two weeks of inclement weather, it was moved inside.  That did not dampen the spirits of enthusiastic students, however, who got to pet and observe live chickens; watch a pioneer video, Little House in the Big Woods; learn about chores and examine artifacts from pioneer days; experience a classroom of long ago and write on slate chalkboards; write with feather pens and ink on parchment paper; enjoy a snack of ginger ale and corn nuts; make a button and string toy; play wooden checkers, tic-tac-toe, marbles, dominoes and pick-up-sticks; and participate in a corncob toss game and hoop and stick game.  The program was made possible with the help of many much-appreciated volunteers.
