Students and staff at McVay Elementary were heartbroken when their beloved “lunch lady,” Lori Sherman, passed away in August, just before school started.  Third grade pupil Thatcher Dietz came up with a creative and compassionate way to honor her memory.  He organized a canned food drive, starting with a letter asking his neighbors to donate.  It said, “Mrs. Lori was great to all the students at McVay.”  He extended his collection effort to classmates, who came through in a big way, by bringing in nearly 700 cans of food.  Bright Path, an enrichment program attended by his little brother, wanted to contribute as well.  When all the cans are collected, they will be donated to the Westerville Area Resource Ministry (WARM), in memory of Lori Sherman.
