Oscar Oppermann, a kindergarten student in Lindsey Gamertsfelder’s class at Annehurst Elementary, proposed the winning theme for the Rotary Club of Westerville’s 2022 Independence Day Parade: “Star-Spangled and Strong.”

With the winning submission, Oppermann will receive $100 and is invited to ride on the Rotary’s float during the big parade with a friend or family member. The 2020 and 2021 parades were canceled due to the pandemic but will resume this summer.

Representatives from the Rotary celebrated Oppermann on Friday with a pizza party for his class. Oppermann and his family will be the guests of honor at a future Rotary Club of Westerville luncheon held at Villa Milano.
