On the first day of school this year, students at Annehurst Elementary, Blendon Middle and Westerville South High Schools were introduced to fully remodeled cafeterias.  The focus of the remodeling process was to meet the changes expected by the students and improve the service and selection available.  These goals included the addition of self-serve Produce/Salad bars, more serving areas that have the ability to switch between hot and cold lines to serve the “Specialty Bar” such as the Southern Style BBQ Bar, the Italian Sandwich Bar, the Burrito/Taco Bar and many more which change daily on a rotating schedule and allow the pupils to build their own meal.  New and improved Deli Bars along with sandwich areas, pizza stations and a Comfort Food area were also added.  The remodeling process has improved customer flow and provides up-to-date displays of all the offerings on new flat screen message boards.

Because Westerville City Schools Food Service is a non-profit operation, it is required to carry no more than a 90 day operating balance in its revenue fund.  All excess funds must be re-invested into the food service program.  This may include replacement of outdated equipment and remodeling of old kitchens.  This year, they were able to re-invest in the District with the students in mind by remodeling three of the cafeterias with hopes that they can continue the reinvestment with future cafeteria remodels in other buildings.
