Cynthia Hoskey, portraying Sara Bush Johnson Lincoln, shared stories of hardship and celebration with students at Annehurst Elementary School.

Living History presenter Cynthia Hoskey visits fourth grade students at Annehurst Elementary School four times a year to bring the past to life by dressing in period costumes and portraying stories of hardships and celebrations.  Throughout her performances she welcomes responses from the children and encourages them to ask questions.  She even shares treats that youngsters of years gone by would have enjoyed.

Hoskey visited the school on February 14 as Sara Bush Johnson Lincoln, President Abraham Lincoln’s stepmother.  She told the tale of being widowed and left with three small children to care for.  Thomas Lincoln, a widower, eventually traveled to Kentucky to ask for her hand in marriage.  She agreed and their families were joined.  She spoke of family dynamics and Abraham Lincoln’s journey to the presidency.

Hoskey was a classroom teacher for 32 years until she retired from the Highland Local Schools in 1999.  She was a Living History performer for the State House until 2009.  She currently performs for the Ohio Historical Museum and the Historical Village.
