On October 11 Annehurst Elementary students got the opportunity to explore the solar system without ever leaving school. The Center of Science and Industry (COSI) brought its traveling program, “Astounding Astronomy” to the building to stimulate the imaginations of the next generation of astronauts and aerospace engineers.

The day began with a 45-minute interactive assembly focusing on the size and distance between planets, the electromagnetic spectrum, and the extreme cold of the outer planets and deep space. Hands on activities followed where the children got to maneuver a remotely operated vehicle, identify constellations and watch the impact of air pressure on a marshmallow. This COSI on Wheels program aligns with Ohio Academic Content Standards and allows pupils to discover the impact that chemistry and space technology have on their daily lives.
