In preparation for a visit from David Catrow, students at Fouse Elementary School have been reading many of his books and discussing his art.  He spent the day there on March 15 focusing on his belief that “we are all artists.”  He said there is an “art history” contained in everyone.  “For thousands of years, we humans have used our natural ability to communicate very complex visual ideas; through manipulations of voice, body, and the reshaping of our physical environments to create record,” he explained.

Catrow has written and illustrated many books for children, with more than 70 published works in print.  His Scholastic book series, Max Spaniel, has sold more than a million copies and he has written several New York Times best sellers, along with two New York Times best illustrated books.  He has also worked extensively in film and television, on projects including Horton Hears a Who, Despicable Me, Stuart Little, and Plantzilla.  His syndicated editorial cartoons have run in more than 1,000 newspapers.
