Fifth grade Wilder Elementary School student David Osborne was named Overall Grand Winner at the eighth annual Westerville City Schools Lego Competition held April 5 at Heritage Middle School.  Dr. Scott Ebbrecht, facilitator of the annual event, commented to the nearly 130 student participants and their family members, “Perseverance paid off for David in that he has competed each year since kindergarten, and on his final attempt, took home the grand prize!”  Proceeds from the event benefited Westerville’s Elementary Leadership Summit and the Children Supporting Children Foundation.

Participants had to provide their own Legos.  They were allowed to build anything they wanted during the competition, but nothing could be pre-built prior to the contest.  No directions to Lego sets were permitted.  Parental assistance was not allowed, but family members and friends were permitted to watch from a designated viewing area.

Other Best of Show winners were:

  • Overall Best of Show for Most Creative - Adam Miracle (Robert Frost, 2nd Grade); and
  • Overall Best of Show for Most Realistic - Ava Boudreau (McVay, Kindergarten).

Each contestant received a Certificate of Participation, and two winners per grade level were recognized and awarded Lego prizes:

  • Kindergarten - Most Realistic, Aubrey Watkins (Fouse); Most Creative, Tyler Klein (Pointview)
  • Grade 1 - Most Realistic, Lucas Jergens (Alcott); Most Creative, Luke Haman (Mark Twain)
  • Grade 2 - Most Realistic, Gabe Ryjewski (Mark Twain); Most Creative, Evelyn Clark (Fouse)

The event was supported, in part, by Meijer, Bricks 4 Kidz - Westerville, and Embassy Suites - Westerville.
