Fouse Elementary School is pleased to announce a new program focused on connecting families to support the academic and social needs of its students. The program is titled “Playdate with a Purpose” in grades K-2, and “Homework Hangout” in grades 3-5.
This idea grew from families casually mentioning they would welcome additional opportunities to help others and from families who were asking for assistance because a work schedule or a language barrier was impacting their ability to help with homework. The school Outreach and Engagement Team worked with the Parent Teacher Organization to create a new avenue to link families.
Beginning in March, host families will invite another child into their home once or twice a week after school. They will work on homework together, read, have a snack, and hopefully get in time to relax and socialize. As the families work together, it is hoped that a mutually beneficial relationships will flourish.
The program will begin this year with approximately 10 families. Feedback from this small group will be used to make adjustments next school year. Fouse personnel anticipate facilitating arrangements for more families next year and beginning the exercise at an earlier date.
