The first-graders in Jim Ledford’s class at Alcott Elementary resumed operations of El Toro Loco on Friday — the first time the pop-up, student-run Mexican restaurant opened since the pandemic.

El Toro Loco — or “The Crazy Bull” — is the culminating activity for the daily Spanish lessons Ledford teaches his students during the school year. Students fulfill all the jobs at the restaurant, including host, server, busser, manager and cashier. They also entertained guests with children’s songs in Spanish and jokes.

“The main thing I want students to get from this is working together,” Ledford said. “When they work together, they can see what they can accomplish.”

Yabo’s Tacos donated the chips and salsa while parents helped cover costs of the food.
