First grade students at Alcott Elementary School recently hosted a Mexican Restaurant, “El Toro Loco.”  Pupils in the classrooms of Jim Ledford and Jason McQuown learned Spanish throughout the year and greeted the customers in Espanol.  They worked collaboratively learning all the jobs associated with restaurant work, filled out applications, and interviewed for various positions.  Hosts, hostesses, waiters, waitresses, bussers, managers, cooks and cashiers served more than 130 parents, grandparents, and staff members.  The children learned math skills, reading skills, and career skills for this project.  Money raised will be used to offset the cost of Camp Skeeter, an end-of-year activity for first graders.  Additionally, monetary contributions and donations of household and toiletry items were collected for the family of a first grader, who recently lost their home in a fire.
