Westerville Central High School’s 8th annual Arts Alive Festival went off without a hitch on Thursday, April 17, thanks to cooperative weather and some 50 students and staff who worked with art teachers to produce the ambitious outdoor event.  This was the largest chalk walk ever, with 140 four-foot chalk murals drawn on the sidewalk surrounding the building.  More than 350 high school students helped create the collaborative chalk murals, along with 60 4th and 5th graders from Alcott Elementary.  Students also had the opportunity to experience a clay studio, an interactive art area, a spoken word coffeehouse stage, and a multi-cultural fair featuring food and fun facts about 10 cultures from around the world, including a Somali dance.  Central’s drum line, jazz band, orchestra, and choir also performed outside on the front lawn.  Inside, the Hawk's Nest gallery showcased more than 250 works of student art from this school year.  Overall, over 600 students participated in the festival, and several hundred more came to see the art and play in the interactive area.
