Kindergarten students at Alcott Elementary School once again held their annual toy drive last month to benefit the Genoa Township Firefighters for Kids program. More than 200 toys were donated by students, parents and teachers. The school’s kindergarten teachers have always been very excited about this project, which is held in cooperation with the Fire Department, because it provides the opportunity to help children in the local community during the season of giving. Participation is optional, but the event reinforces Alcott’s Character Education Word of the Month, which was “caring.” Instead of buying gifts for students and volunteers, the kindergarten teachers donated toys in honor of all the Alcott kindergarten students and the wonderful parent volunteers. Teachers and students alike expressed appreciation for the opportunity to give to others.
