Rotary Club of Westerville April 2023 Student of the Month

The Rotary Club of Westerville recognized its April 2023 Students of the Month during a meeting on April 13. Throughout the school year, from October through May, the Club honors four students from local high schools each month. Working with the school principals and counselors, one student each month is chosen from Westerville Central, Westerville North, Westerville South and St. Francis DeSales high schools. The students, their parents, and the school administrators are introduced and honored at a Rotary Club luncheon each month.

February 2023 Honoree Profiles

Westerville Central: Tatum Hubble’s favorite subjects are life science and math. The senior is a member of National Honor Society, Hope Squad, Superintendent Advisory Committee and Leadership Letterman’s Club. She also serves as a captain of the softball team. During her free time, she participates in self-care activities such as yoga. In the summer, she plays club softball and volunteers for the Special Olympic softball program. She is an eight-time Scholar Athlete for volleyball and softball and a two-year captain of both varsity volleyball and softball teams. She plans to attend Columbia University, where she will major in pre med Biology and play softball.

“I’m very honored to receive a reward of this nature because I have worked around the clock all year to succeed both academically and athletically, and it means a lot to know that the hard work does get noticed.”

Westerville North: Kayla “Mac” Smith’s favorite subjects are art and math. The senior is involved in a project through boundless with the CEO to create therapy for LGBTQIA teens with special needs as well as a project with OSU that advocates for people with special needs with psychological disorders. “When everyone looks in at their reflection don't just look on or think you are limited to something know you are unlimited to everything.” 

Westerville South: Mollie Kinkead’s favorite subjects are band and physics. The senior is involved in the jazz and symphonic band as well as the marching band, where she has been a section leader for the past three years. I am a member of the theatre troupe, where she has directed, acted, performed in the pit orchestra and participated in props design. She is president of the STEAM Club, treasurer of the National Honor Society and a member of WSHS’ In The Know team and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Outside of school, she is involved in her church and its youth group. During the summer, she volunteers at the Ohio Craft Museum's Day Camp. She enjoys volunteering with one of her favorite volunteer experiences involved helping local elementary students at energy fairs, walking them through snap circuits and showing the fun side of science. Among her awards and recognitions: Kiwanis Club of Westerville’s Academic Varsity Award, Cats With Class award, four years of perfect attendance and an honors diploma. She plans to attend Ohio Northern University to study civil engineering. “I would like to thank the Rotary for this award.”

St. Francis DeSales: Elizabeth “Ellie” Reash’s favorite subjects are English and social studies. The senior is a member of the cross country and track teams, Evangelization Team, Run the Race club, National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society Chapter. She has served as captain of the senior class for the canned food drive run by the National Honor Society. As a member of the Evangelization Team, she has organized retreats and led the school’s senior Kairos retreat. Outside of school, she is involved in the youth group at St. Paul and volunteers with a group called Mommies Matter. She has been on the school’s honor roll since freshman year and was nominated for the Be Who You Are and Be That Well campaign at DeSales. She was awarded the Bob Lennon Award at the end of the cross country season for perseverance, team-first attitude and leadership. She is undecided on college but plans to study middle childhood education.
