Twelve juniors in Diana Arko’s Medical Intervention class at Westerville Central High School explored Otterbein’s facilities and programs on March 17, from learning about the admissions process and financial aid incentives including scholarship and STEM grant opportunities to participating in a variety of labs.

As part of a biomechanics lab activity run by Joe Wilkins, coordinator of Clinical Education for Athletic Training, they practiced marking anatomical landmarks and learned about applications for biomechanical research. The activity ended with Stella McCrea-Smith demonstrating the capabilities of the state of the art motion capturing equipment.

During a campus tour with Athletic Training Program Director Dr. Joan Rocks, students visited the Shear-McFadden Science Hall where Dr. John Chovan, Chief Nurse Administrator and chair of the Department of Nursing, showcased the nursing training labs and facilities.

Students explored the patient simulators, which included getting to hold a model of a 20-week-old premature infant. The tour included information on the extensive nursing opportunities Otterbein offers as well as its allied health and health and sports science programs.
