WCHS students take top honors at Girls of Color TECHCORPShack coding event

Four Westerville Central High School students earned top honors at the TECHCORPShack coding event on Nov. 12 at Capital University. 

Senior Sidney Choo and sophomore Olivia Stevens placed first, sophomore Aashvi Soni placed second and junior Carolina Bushong placed third in teams that learned how to use the MIT App Inventor to create an app that tackles a real-world need or problem. Soni also won the event’s social media award. 

Columbus-based TECH CORPS, which hosted the 12-hour event, develops educational tech programs and fosters partnerships with industry professionals to support schools and youth groups. 

In addition to prizes from Intel and sponsors, first place winners received $200 while second place winners were awarded a $50 Amazon gift card.
