Sixteen high school juniors at all three Westerville high schools have been selected to the College Board National African American Recognition Program, which recognizes African American students across the country based on their PSAT or AP scores.

They include:

  • Ali Ali, WNHS

  • Kyndall Bell, WCHS

  • Tera Berko, WCHS

  • Madinah Bintshahiydullah Binraymond, WSHS

  • Kwame Boateng, WNHS

  • Jaedon Chase, WNHS

  • Uzoma Fah, WNHS

  • Marcus Gordon, WCHS

  • Avery Gibson, WNHS

  • Salma Hassan, WCHS

  • Aurelia Ledbetter, WSHS

  • Jasmine Leeman, WSHS

  • Zakaria Mahmoud, WSHS

  • Hamdi Mohamad, WNHS

  • Safia Raki, WNHS

  • Alayna Williamson, WCHS

Students selected for the honor can cite it on their college and scholarship applications. In turn, colleges use the recognition as a way of identifying students from underrepresented groups.

WSCD students said they were honored by the recognition, which served as a validation of all their hard work. Some students, like WCHS’ Berko, hope the accolade could inspire their younger peers.

“I’m really happy that I was able to do well enough in my academics to get it and to provide a good example for those around me, especially those who are younger,” she said.

The College Board’s National Recognition Programs highlight students from underrepresented groups such as — ethnic minorities or those who attend school in rural areas or small towns — who have excelled in their PSAT and/or AP scores.
