Eight middle school students earn scholarships for Be WISE Camp at Muskingum University

The Westerville Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), with cooperation from the WCS Gifted Education Department, has awarded eight $325 partial scholarships to the Be WISE Camp at Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio this summer. Founded in 1881 and with nearly 1,000 branches across the country, AAUW is a national organization promoting equity and education for women and girls.

With support from the Gifted Education Department and the science teachers, the sixth graders who are recipients of the scholarships are:

  • Blendon: Tessa Aultman and Salma Shukri

  • Genoa: Aarzoo Dhungana and Raegan Gross 

  • Heritage: Paige Cleary and Addison Scott 

  • Walnut Springs: Simone Griffin and Courtney Mazak

Be WISE is a mathematics, science and technology camp for girls entering grades 7, 8, or 9 in the fall of 2022.  It features a separate curriculum for each grade level emphasizing hands-on activities in math and science. This summer is the camp's 33rd anniversary. Since then, over 3,000 girls have participated. This residential camp for 160 girls will be held from June 5-10, 2022. Registration deadline is May 1.
