Rotary Club of Westerville January 2022 Student of the Month

The Rotary Club of Westerville recognized its January 2022 Students of the Month during a Jan. 6 meeting. Throughout the school year, from October through May, the Club honors four students from local high schools each month. Working with the school principals and counselors, one student each month is chosen from Westerville Central, Westerville North, Westerville South and St. Francis DeSales high schools. The students, their parents, and the school administrators are introduced and honored at a Rotary Club luncheon each month.

January 2022 Honoree Profiles

Westerville Central: Katie Bryant’s favorite subjects is AP Literature and Composition. The senior is part of Westerville Central’s newspaper, a senior class officer and the blood drive coordinator for the National Honor Society. She has received an Underclassman award for her first three years of high school. She is interested in attending Ohio State University, the University of Dayton or the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to study business management. “I love to volunteer — it is my passion and what I hope to be my future.”

Westerville North: Damou Sakho’s favorite subjects are history and literature. The senior is part of the Westerville North Athletic Leadership Team, Hope Squad and WNHS’ Black History Month program. He is a senior class officer and competes on the school’s soccer and volleyball teams. He has been on the school’s honor roll and merit roll. He is interested in attending the University of Cincinnati, Ohio State University or Wooster College to study communications. “I love my family and friends and I wouldn’t be where I am without them.”

Westerville South: Devray Kirkland’s favorite subjects are science and math. The junior is a member of the National Honor Society and competes in the school’s lacrosse and football teams, earning academic letters in both sports. Among the awards and achievements he’s received: Cats with Class and character education awards. He is exploring his college options and is interested in a career in human resources or business management.

St. Francis DeSales: Madelyn McCurdy’s favorite subjects are math and English. The senior is a member of the National Honor Society, Environmental Club and St. Vincent DePaul Club. She serves as a math tutor and volunteers with Meals on Wheels. She is interested in attending Ohio State University, the University of Michigan, the University of Wisconsin and the University of Colorado at Boulder to study environmental studies.
