Three Westerville seniors have been selected as recipients of the National Merit $2,500 Scholarship, according to a recent announcement by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).

Catherine Adams, who attends Westerville North High School, and Emma Funderburg and Laura Wolfe, both of whom attend Westerville Central High School, are among 2,500 Merit Scholar designees chosen from a pool of 16,000 finalists across the country.

Scholars are selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors based on a variety of factors including academic record, scores from the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), contributions and leadership in school and community activities.

This is one of several announcements that NMSC will make over the coming months. By the conclusion of this year’s competition, about 7,500 academic champions will have received National Merit Scholarships worth more than $30 million.
