Given the state’s recent revision to spectator attendance guidelines for indoor and outdoor athletic venues, Westerville City School District officials are developing plans that would allow Class of 2021 graduation ceremonies to be held in each high school’s respective stadium.

“We’ve had a team of school leaders and district administrators working with graduating seniors on a plan to hold graduation ceremonies in their high school stadiums,” said Superintendent Dr. John Kellogg. “We’re still crunching numbers to determine how many tickets each student would be allotted and making contingency plans for bad weather, but we’re cautiously optimistic that we’ll be able to hold a traditional ceremony for our graduates this year.”

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine on February 25 said outdoor sporting and entertainment events will be able to have a 30 percent maximum capacity, providing established COVID-19 protocols are followed.

Kellogg noted that graduation plans are fluid and will be adjusted to ensure compliance with evolving health protocols and guidelines from the state. “Additional details are forthcoming, so graduating seniors and their families should continue to watch for this information from their schools,” he added.
