Westerville Central High School juniors Anna Borders, Sarah Gellner, and Rachel Kaufman, along with Wellington School junior Adriane Thompson, were recognized by the Board of Education on February 11 for helping to create Section 5.074 of Senate Bill 86, the Barn Bill. This designates the barn as the official historical architectural structure of the State of Ohio. Ohio Governor John Kasich signed it into law on December 19, 2018. The students were lauded for their perseverance in seeing this through until fruition, which took four years. They began the process when they were pupils at Genoa Middle School.
Also honored were their teachers, Caley Nestor Baker, who now serves as Coordinator, Gifted Education for the Westerville City School District, and Debbie Pellington, Gifted Facilitator at Genoa and Heritage Middle Schools. These exceptional educators were thanked for inspiring their students to work to their greatest potential.
